![]() ![]() Does anyone recommend an idiot version of linux that would accomodate this endeavor? I would really like to avoid learning linux commands & scripts as part of this project. I need a GUI based OS and would really prefer app installs to be straight forward and don't want to have to open a linux command prompt for anything more than I would using a windows OS. In the somewhat recent past using linux mint I have run into issues installing apps because it doesnt seem as straight forward as windows. Ok guys so im buying into the idea of a 64bit linux OS. I would appreciate some advice but would really appreciate it if comments are kept straight to the point. Could someone tell me if running a 32bit vm would be a better option than a 64bit given my needs/interests mentioned above? I understand I need to becareful how much physical resources I assign to the vm because that will affect performance on my physical machine. I also use my physical machine for alot of my day to day work so I don't want performance to be smashed. ![]() I want to use this VM for downloading only and plan to leave it up 24/7 so I dont care about performance too much just reasonable to average download speeds on the VM. The physical machine has 12GB of ram, icore5 processer and a 64bit OS. Im interested in running a single windows 7 vm on a physical windows 10 machine using virtual box. Could anyone give any clues about this issue? Thanks very much in advance! For example, Windows Sandbox to test applications, Microsoft Defender Application Guard to load untrusted websites, and the Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 run distros of Linux like Ubuntu or Kali.I have downloaded and installed the newest virtualbox 4.3.20 for my Windows 7 (64-bit OS), but when I want to install 64-bit Linux, the New->Create Virtual Machine only displays 32-bit option, no 64-bit option. While you can use VirtualBox to create virtual machines, Windows 10 also includes several features to avoid third-party virtualization technologies. Once you complete the steps, the virtual machine will restart, and you can start using Windows 10 in a virtual environment. Under the “Devices and drives” section, double-click to open the VirtualBox Guest Additions disc.ĭouble-click the VBoxWindowsAdditions.exe file to launch the installer. Open File Explorer in the virtual machine ( Windows key + E keyboard shortcut). Quick note: The Guest Additions is the package that contains all the VirtualBox drivers to allow the operating system to work correctly in the virtual environment. To create a virtual machine to host a Windows 10 installation, use these steps: If you plan to set up one or multiple Windows 10 virtual machines, you will need to install VirtualBox, download the latest ISO file of Windows 10, and then continue with the instructions below. In this guide, you will learn the steps to create a VirtualBox virtual machine with Windows 10. You can also use it to install and run Windows Insider Preview builds without the need for another computer. For example, to test untrusted applications, run legacy programs in older versions of Windows, install different operating systems like Linux or keep specific work separate. Usually, the ability to create a virtual machine can come in handy in many scenarios. VirtualBox provides a free and easy way to create a virtual machine to run Windows 10 (or another OS) alongside the main installation without the need for extra hardware, and here’s how to set it up.Ī virtual machine is a virtualization technology that allows you to run multiple operating systems in containers isolated from the main installation as a separate device but without the extra hardware.
